About
Katoomba Athletics

Katoomba District Athletics Club is a long established athletics centre in the upper Blue Mountains. Initially established and running out of Katoomba as a Little Athletics Club, it now operates from Pitt Park in Wentworth Falls and is affiliated with both Little Athletics NSW and Athletics NSW. Participants are drawn mainly from Lawson to Blackheath, but members are welcome from across the Blue Mountains. We cater for athletes aged 4 – 17 years in Little Athletics competition and athletes aged 12 years upwards in Athletic NSW sanction competition. Our Centre aims to provide a safe and friendly environment where members can undertake a range of athletic activities consistent with the guidelines provided by Little Athletics NSW and Athletics NSW. Our competition program runs from October to March each year on Saturday mornings between 8:30am and 12 noon. We offer most Little Athletics NSW events and a restricted set of Athletics NSW events (ee do not offer pole vault or hammer throw). Our ground at Pitt Park Wentworth Falls has a 7 lane 400m athletics track, two long jump pits, two discus cages and two shotput circles. We also include High Jump and Javelin in our programs. The centre provides coaching in select events by accredited coaches on set afternoons during the competition season depending on demand. As a member of the Little Athletics Western Ranges Zone, Little Athletics members also have the opportunity to compete with other zone clubs including Bathurst, Blayney, Canowindra, Cowra, Glenbrook, Kandos/Rylstone, Katoomba, Kurrajong/Bilpin, Lithgow, Springwood, and Oberon District at Zone championship days, and at higher levels of competition if successful. Athletes aged over 12 years have the options of competing at a range of events run by Athletics NSW.

Our
History

Katoomba District Little Athletics Centre was formed in 1973. The minutes of the inaugural meetings are in the Policies section of the website. The Club originally operated out of Clauvaux Oval in Katoomba opposite what was the Scenic Railway and Skyway in Katoomba, and which is now known as Scenic World. In the 1980s, the Centre relocated to Pitt Park in Wentworth Falls, following a change in ownership of Clauvaux Oval, and has operated from this location ever since. In 2021, the Club decided to expand its affiliation, and agreed to affiliate with both Little Athletics NSW and Athletics NSW. This change allowed the Club to be known as a “OneSport” Club which permitted it to offer athletics competition for all ages.
